Ghana World Cup opponents Panama suffer heavy defeat to Brazil in friendly
Panama, one of Ghana's opponents at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, suffered a 6-2 defeat to Brazil in an international friendly on Sunday.
The match formed part of both teams' preparations for the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Brazil took the lead after just one minute through Vinicius Junior at the Maracanã Stadium. Panama drew level in the 39th minute following an own goal by Matheus Cunha.
Casemiro restored Brazil's advantage before halftime, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
Brazil extended their lead in the second half with goals from Rayan, Lucas Paquetá, Igor Thiago and Danilo.
Carlos Harvey scored Panama's second goal of the match, but it was not enough to prevent defeat.
Panama have been drawn in Group L of the World Cup alongside Ghana, England and Croatia. They will open their campaign against Ghana on June 17 in Canada.
Brazil are in Group C with Morocco, Haiti and Scotland and will begin their tournament against Morocco.
