Herbert Mensah predicts challenging World Cup campaign for Black Stars
Former Asante Kotoko chairman Herbert Mensah has expressed skepticism regarding Ghana’s prospects at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Despite the technical team’s mandate to reach the semifinals, Mensah believes the Black Stars face a difficult path in Group L against Panama, England, and Croatia.
In an interview with Kumasi-based LUV FM, Mensah highlighted historical administrative challenges, noting that players often have to compensate for management shortcomings to achieve results.
"I think this time it will be a little bit difficult for them," Mensah remarked, adding that while the group stage makes "anything possible," the current balance of the team presents significant hurdles.
The Black Stars are scheduled to open their campaign against Panama on June 17, followed by matches against England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Under head coach Carlos Queiroz, the team is currently preparing with upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Wales as they aim to advance beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
