Match Day 3 is done, and the semi-finalists of the 2026 Honda Football Championship have been decided.

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), the University of Ghana (UG), the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), and the University for Development Studies (UDS) have all earned their place in the last four after three days of competitive football at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

UENR have been the standout side of the group stage, winning all three of their matches. They received a walkover against UPSA, defeated UDS 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw, and wrapped up their campaign with a clean 1-0 victory over Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) on Match Day 3. Three games, three wins — UENR head into the semi-finals as the team to beat.

UG has also impressed, winning two out of their three games. They opened their campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over Tamale Technical University (TaTU) on Match Day 1, suffered a 2-1 defeat to UMaT on Match Day 2, but bounced back strongly on Match Day 3, edging out UBIDS 5-3 on penalties after a goalless draw to secure their semi-final spot.

UBIDS have had a solid campaign as well, also winning two out of three games. They started strong with a 3-1 penalty victory over UMaT after a 1-1draw on Match Day 1, followed that up with a 2-1 win over TaTU on Match Day 2, before falling to UG 5-3 on penalties in their final group game. Despite that late defeat, UBIDS did enough to make it through to the semi-finals.

Then there is UDS. If there is one team that has kept everyone on the edge of their seats, it is them. They have not had an easy game all tournament. They beat BTU 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, then came back from the brink against UENR to win 4-3 on penalties after another 2-2 draw. On Match Day 3, they received a walkover against UPSA, sealing their place in the semi-finals without breaking a sweat. UDS do not do easy wins, but they keep finding a way, and that is what makes them dangerous.

The semi-finals are set. UENR will face UG, and UBIDS will take on UDS. Two massive games that are guaranteed to deliver. The 2026 Honda Football Championship is heating up the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Friday, 27th March at 4:30 pm. See you there!

The 2026 Honda Football Championship is powered by Honda and Overseas Union Ltd, the sole distributors of Honda Motorcycles in Ghana. The event is produced by RITE Sports Services.
