Gov't secures new Metro Mass Transit buses to boost public transport after nine-year gap

The government has taken delivery of a new fleet of buses for Metro Mass Transit, marking the first major addition to the company’s fleet in over nine years.

According to the Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo Toffey, the first batch of 100 buses out of a planned total of 300 have been successfully inspected.

She gave the asurance more buses are coming to augment the capacity of MMT in delivering smooth transport services across the country, when she together with the CEO of MMT, Kale Ceasar did a pre-inspection of the 100 buses that have arrived in the coun 

She noted that the development forms part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Transport, led by Joseph Bukari Nikpe, with support from President John Dramani Mahama, to improve mobility and ease commuting challenges across the country.

She noted that the acquisition is a strategic intervention aimed at enhancing public transportation services and responding to the growing demand for reliable and affordable transit options.

The Deputy Minister added that additional batches of buses are expected to arrive in the coming months, gradually strengthening the capacity of the transport system.

 

The initiative is part of the government’s broader agenda to modernise public transport infrastructure, improve service delivery, and restore confidence in the sector.
