Dzifa Gomashie calls for greater investment in Ghana’s creative arts sector
Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called for increased investment and stronger national support for Ghana’s creative arts industry, describing creative professionals as vital contributors to national development.
Speaking during a meeting with Harmonious Chorale, the Minister expressed concern over the persistent lack of corporate sponsorship and the continued undervaluation of practitioners within the creative sector.
She noted that specialised areas such as choral music and children-focused productions often struggle to attract the recognition and financial backing needed to thrive, despite their significant cultural and educational impact.
According to the Minister, Ghana must adopt a new national mindset that recognises the creative arts not merely as entertainment, but as an important pillar of cultural identity, tourism promotion, and international visibility.
Hon. Gomashie also praised Harmonious Chorale for its contribution to promoting Ghana on the global stage through music and cultural performances.
She reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for the group’s upcoming participation in the Festival of Orthodox Church Music in Poland, describing the event as another opportunity to showcase Ghana’s cultural excellence internationally.
The Minister stressed that sustained investment in the creative industry would help nurture talent, create jobs, preserve Ghana’s cultural heritage, and strengthen the country’s presence on the global cultural landscape.
