The Supreme Court of Ghana has ordered Kumawood actor Lil Win to pay GHS10,000 after condemning his conduct as “disrespectful” during legal proceedings involving actress Martha Ankomah.

The dispute began with a defamation lawsuit filed by Martha Ankomah on 14 February 2024 at the Accra High Court, seeking GHS5 million in damages.

The suit followed remarks Lil Win made in a viral video, claiming that Ankomah had disparaged the Kumawood film industry in a conversation with director Frank Fiifi Gharbin.

According to him, she allegedly suggested that the sector’s productions were of low quality and refused to participate in its projects.

As one of Kumawood’s most prominent actresses, Ankomah’s claim triggered heated exchanges, with Lil Win responding with further statements that were widely criticised as offensive and derogatory.

In February 2025, the two parties reportedly reached an initial agreement aimed at resolving the matter.

However, the settlement process reportedly broke down after Lil Win allegedly failed to honour its terms and initiated additional legal manoeuvres that delayed the case.

On 1 April 2025, a hearing was scheduled for Lil Win to issue a formal apology as part of the court-approved settlement. Neither he nor his lawyers appeared, prompting the High Court to issue a final warning on 15 April, instructing him to attend or face sanctions.

The matter escalated through the judicial system after several motions and applications.

Lil Win sought a stay of proceedings at the Court of Appeal, which was rejected, before taking the case to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court hearing was scheduled for 31 March 2026, but the actor and his legal team again failed to appear.

In response, the Supreme Court expressed displeasure at his absence and ordered Lil Win to pay GHS10,000 in costs to Martha Ankomah, labelling his conduct as “disrespectful.”
