A fire has gutted 12 rooms of a three-storey residential building in Manhyia, near the Manhyia Government Hospital in the Kumasi Metropolis, leaving extensive property damage.

Firefighters from the Asokore Mampong and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) fire stations responded swiftly to the emergency, successfully containing the blaze and preventing further spread.

​Out of the 44 bedrooms in the structure, 31 were salvaged along with their contents; however, 12 rooms and all belongings inside were destroyed in the inferno that occurred today.

No casualties were recorded, as the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

​Speaking to the media, the Regional Deputy Fire Commander, ACFOII Amos Aban, stated that investigations have been launched into the origin of the blaze, while pointing to potential electrical factors.

​"We didn't record any casualties. We have not yet ascertained the cause of the fire, but we are still investigating," he stated. 

"Although we've not completed our investigations, it is an old building, and you could see that the electrical wiring is outdated," Mr Aban highlighted.

He advised the public on fire safety measures, urging property owners to prioritise routine electrical maintenance.

​"We are taking this opportunity to advise landlords to engage electrical engineers to inspect and test the wiring in their buildings every 10 to 15 years," the Deputy Commander added.
