C/R: MP, NADMO support Moree disaster victims
A heavy rainstorm has displaced residents and damaged properties at Moree in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese Constituency in the Central Region.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has donated relief items and cash support to affected residents in the community.
The items included rice, mattresses, blankets, maize, beans, sugar, cooking oil, and an amount of GHS40,000.
Briefing the media, Mr Ofosu Kwakye said urgent support would be provided to displaced persons to ease the burden on affected families.
He identified sand winning as one of the major factors affecting houses located along the beaches and called on the District Assembly to strengthen security measures to deal with perpetrators.
He also stressed the need for the speedy construction of a sea defence project to prevent the sea from getting closer to residential areas in the community.
According to him, the relief items provided are temporary measures, adding that government would intervene to relocate affected residents to safer areas within the district.
