A 36-year-old school nurse at Ofori Panin Senior High School (OPASS), Edward Cann, has died following a fatal motorbike accident at OPASS Junction in the Eastern Region.

The New Tafo-Akim District Police Command confirmed that the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 8, 2026, near the Lakeside washing bay at OPASS Junction.

According to police, officers received a distress report at about 1:30 a.m. and immediately proceeded to the scene, where they found the victim lying near his Royal motorbike with registration number M-23-UE 424, suffering from severe injuries.

Mr. Cann was rushed to the New Tafo-Akim Government Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the deceased was travelling from Kukurantumi towards OPASS Junction when the accident occurred.

Police suspect that the victim may have failed to disengage the motorbike’s kickstand before riding.

Investigators believe the kickstand struck the road surface while the motorbike was in motion, causing him to lose control and crash.

The body has since been deposited at the New Tafo-Akim Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the motorbike has been impounded at the New Tafo Police Station for further examination.

The Police Service expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the Ofori Panin Senior High School community over the unfortunate incident.
