NAiMOS, Blue Water Guards arrest 8 illegal miners, seize 4 excavators in night raid at Mpatasies Odaho
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAiMOS), in a joint operation with the Blue Water Guards, has arrested eight (8) suspected illegal miners and seized four excavators during a targeted night operation at Mpatasie and Odaho in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
The operation, conducted on Thursday, 30 April 2026, was based on credible intelligence indicating active illegal mining along the roadside corridor and the banks of the Oda River.
Acting swiftly, the joint team mobilised from Manso Adubia at about 2230 hours and advanced under the cover of darkness to prevent suspects from fleeing. Upon arrival, operatives found several individuals engaged in illegal mining activities near the river and roadside.
Eight suspects were arrested at the scene.
They include Bismark Abilla, Michael Donkor, Kuviele Apuo, Bernard Akeleyona, Joseph Donkor, Vincent Gyimah, Ebenezer Asare, and Kwame Asaa.
Seven of the suspects were residents of Odaho, while one resided at Anwia Nkwanta.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of four excavators of different models, some of which had their control boards and monitors removed—an apparent attempt by operators to avoid full seizure.
Two motorbikes linked to the suspects were also confiscated.
The suspects have been handed over to the Antoa Krom Police Station for further investigations and possible prosecution.
The seized excavators have been transported to a secured NAiMOS holding facility in Kumasi.
NAiMOS reaffirmed its commitment to sustained joint operations with the Blue Water Guards, particularly along river bodies such as the Oda River, which continue to face environmental degradation due to illegal mining
