The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has held the maiden edition of its Ambassadors’ Chat Series, featuring centenarian diplomat Richard Maximillian Akwei.

The event, held on April 28, 2026, brought together officers of the Ministry for an interactive session aimed at promoting professional development through the sharing of practical diplomatic experiences.

The Ambassadors’ Chat Series is designed as an informal platform for serving officers to engage with retired diplomats, drawing lessons from their experiences in advancing Ghana’s foreign policy.

During the session, Ambassador Akwei, one of Ghana’s pioneering Foreign Service Officers, reflected on the country’s diplomatic journey since independence.

He highlighted Ghana’s role in key international developments, including the liberation of African nations, the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (now the African Union), and its involvement in the Non-Aligned Movement.

He also recounted his experiences working with Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, describing the period as both challenging and inspiring.

In addition to sharing historical insights, Ambassador Akwei offered perspectives on current global developments and their implications for international relations, urging today’s diplomats to remain adaptable and forward-thinking.

He commended the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Ministry’s leadership for initiating the programme, describing it as a valuable tool for strengthening Ghana’s diplomatic corps.
