The Economic and Organised Crime Office has granted bail to former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, as investigations into alleged financial improprieties continue.

Mr. Jumah, who was picked up by EOCO officials on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, was granted bail set at GH¢55 million. However, he remains in detention after his legal team reportedly failed to meet the conditions attached to the bail.

Speaking on the matter, Paul Yandoh of the New Patriotic Party said the amount involved has made it difficult for the former GIHOC boss to secure his release.

According to him, efforts to satisfy the bail requirements have so far been unsuccessful because the legal team has not been able to provide assets matching the value demanded.

Mr. Yandoh also criticised the bail conditions, arguing that the amount imposed appears disproportionate to the allegations being investigated.

The former GIHOC CEO was arrested following a search operation at his residence in Kumasi as part of EOCO’s probe into alleged breaches of public financial management procedures during his time at the company.
