Kwahu to become manufacturing powerhouse under 24-Hour Economy initiative

The Government of Ghana has outlined a bold plan to reposition the Kwahu enclave as a leading centre for manufacturing, anchored on the development of a modern Food and Beverages Industrial Park.

The initiative was announced by Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, at the 2026 Kwahu Business Forum currently taking place at the Kwahu Convention Centre. The proposal reflects a strategic effort to harness the area’s terrain and climate to drive large-scale industrial growth.

The planned industrial zone forms a key component of the government’s 24-Hour Economy agenda, which was officially rolled out earlier this year following the passage of the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill.

The policy is designed to increase productivity by enabling round-the-clock operations across industries, potentially expanding output significantly. It is also expected to generate substantial employment opportunities for young people in the Eastern Region, while leveraging improved energy supply and transport infrastructure to sustain continuous production.

Officials disclosed that negotiations with a group of international investors are at an advanced stage, with discussions focused on mobilising funding for the development of the industrial park.

However, some local entrepreneurs expressed concerns over the high cost of borrowing and limited access to credit. Responding to these issues, former Finance Minister Seth Terkper encouraged businesses to explore alternative financing options beyond conventional bank loans.
