Lab Workers demand apology from KODA over ‘Misleading’ Claims
The Medical Laboratory Workers Union has demanded a retraction and apology from the Korle Bu Doctors Association over comments it says misrepresent the work of laboratory professionals, as tensions escalate at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The Union said some doctors have raised concerns about the credibility of results from the hospital’s Central Laboratory, a claim it believes has contributed to patients being redirected to private facilities and weakened public trust in laboratory services.
It, however, dismissed the allegations as inaccurate, stressing that laboratory testing at the facility remains dependable and is essential to medical decision-making.
Speaking at a press conference, the Union’s General Secretary, Dr. Cephas Akortor, stated that clinicians already have access to laboratory data through existing digital platforms, rejecting suggestions that access is restricted.
He argued that the disagreement is rooted in attempts to take over laboratory operations, a move the Union says it will resist.
Describing the remarks as inappropriate, Dr. Akortor called for their withdrawal and a formal apology.
