My son is transsexual, so what? - KKD
Presidential Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) has defended his son's choices over sex and gender.
His son, Kwaku Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah, publicly identified as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community in a 2017 feature published by a digital magazine, intomore.com.
In 2023, he was also captured on camera at the front of a pride protest in England, wearing a curly wig, a bra visible under an unbuttoned shirt, and a handbag across his chest.
Appearing on Starr FM's 'Starr Chat' in an interview with Borla Ray, KKD, who is a well-known figure grounded in Ghanaian culture and broadcasting, offered unflinching support to his son.
He insisted that his son's choices as an adult are beyond his control.
"I love my son, Kwaku. He is intelligent. He is trans[gender] so what? He's a grown man," KKD said.
"It doesn't bother me. All I do is deal with what I have control over. The things I have no control over, I go on my knees and pray about."
He highlighted that children are not things to be built and controlled but people to be reasoned with and guided, nonetheless only up to a point.
"Parents are shepherds, not engineers. You can have a son or daughter who is autistic. Is that your fault? You can have a son or daughter who is disobedient — well, it could be your fault, it could be in your DNA. But, really, it's not your fault," he emphasised.
Asked about those who question his authority as a father over the matter, KKD noted he has only one response.
"I pity you," he said.
