Police warn social media content creators against criminal conduct

Content creation

The Ghana Police Service has issued a strong warning to social media content creators engaging in activities that border on criminality, revealing that one individual has already been arrested for posting a video threatening to kill security personnel.

Speaking at a press briefing, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Grace Ansah Akrofi expressed concern over what she described as a growing trend of individuals using content creation as a cover for behaviour that threatens public order and spreads fear among citizens.

According to her, the suspect, who appeared in a masked video threatening security officers, was arrested by the Police following investigations.

She disclosed that after the arrest, the individual returned online with what appeared to be an apology, claiming that the video was merely intended as content creation.

DCOP Ansah Akrofi stressed that the Police Service would not tolerate any form of online activity that incites violence, threatens lives or undermines national security.

She cautioned content creators to exercise responsibility on digital platforms and avoid actions that could bring them into conflict with the law.

The Police Service further warned that individuals found engaging in acts of intimidation, threats, misinformation or other criminal conduct online would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and urged citizens to use social media responsibly.
