President Mahama praises VRA staff after Akosombo Dam fire, assures continued support
President John Dramani Mahama has commended engineers and staff of the Volta River Authority(VRA) following a recent fire outbreak at the Akosombo Dam in the Eastern Region.
During a visit to the facility, the President acknowledged the impact of the incident on Ghanaians, particularly the recent power outages experienced in parts of the country.
He, however, praised the swift response of the technical team in restoring operations.
President Mahama said he was not surprised by the efforts of the engineers, describing the Authority as home to some of the best human resources in the world.
He added that the incident provides an opportunity to upgrade the dam’s systems with more modern control technology to enhance efficiency and reliability.
He disclosed that he had been briefed on the progress of restoration works, noting that four turbines have already been brought back online, while work is ongoing to restore the remaining two units.
The President also assured both the Volta River Authority and the Ghana Grid Company of government’s continued support to ensure full recovery and stability in power generation and transmission.
