Gov't pushes major Prison reform agenda at Jubilee House briefing

President Mahama meeting with Prison Council
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak-Muntaka, has led the Ghana Prisons Service Council to the Jubilee House to brief President John Dramani Mahama on the current state of the Prisons Service, its challenges, and proposed reforms.

During the engagement, President John Dramani Mahama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to prison reforms, stressing the importance of humane correctional policies.

He noted that “prison is not a place to wish your enemy,” underscoring the need for rehabilitation-focused correctional systems.

The President also expressed full support for the “Think Prison, Think 360 Agenda,” a comprehensive reform framework aimed at transforming the prisons system.

The agenda prioritises improved welfare for inmates, better working conditions for prison officers, and stronger community participation to support rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society.

The delegation included the Council Chairman, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, and the Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie.
