Presidency signs MoU to boost home gardening and urban agriculture
The Director of Agribusiness Development at the Presidency, Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Urban Green Limited to advance home gardening and urban agriculture in Ghana.
The agreement, signed last Thursday, forms part of a broader initiative aimed at significantly increasing household food production, strengthening national food systems, and promoting food security.
The Home Gardening and Urban Agriculture Initiative seeks to encourage individuals and communities to actively engage in food production, particularly within urban areas, as a means of improving access to fresh produce and reducing dependence on external food sources.
Dr Otokunor in a remark said the partnership will support the rollout of practical interventions, including capacity building, resource provision, and the adoption of modern techniques to enhance productivity at the household level.
The initiative aligns with government’s wider agenda to build a resilient and sustainable agricultural sector capable of meeting the country’s growing food demands.
