Ghana is close to appointing a new head coach for the Black Stars, with an announcement expected this week, according to Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams.

The national team has been without a substantive coach since the departure of Otto Addo following the March international friendlies against Austria and Germany.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, the Buem MP said the recruitment process is almost complete, with the Ghana Football Association expected to name a new coach soon.

“If by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, then by Monday at the latest we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach,” he said.

He also expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete at the highest level.

“We have what it takes to go very far, maybe even win the World Cup. Let’s remain hopeful,” he added.

Several experienced coaches, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento and Fernando Santos, have been linked with the role.

The new coach is expected to take charge ahead of a planned friendly against Mexico in May.

Ghana, drawn in Group L, will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
