Tariq Lamptey and Fiorentina mutually terminate contract following injury-plagued stint
Fiorentina has officially finalised the mutual termination of Tariq Lamptey’s contract, ending a tenure that saw the Ghanaian defender feature for only 25 minutes. The 25-year-old joined the Italian side from Brighton last summer in a €6 million transfer, signing a three-year agreement intended to revitalize his career.
Lamptey’s time in Florence was defined by a severe injury sustained during his only start for the club against Como on September 21, 2025.
After just 22 minutes of play in that match, he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), an injury that prevented him from ever making another appearance for the team.
Prior to that, his only other contribution was a brief substitute appearance against Napoli.
The ACL injury added to a extensive history of fitness issues that had previously hindered his progress during his time at Brighton.
By terminating the contract two games before the conclusion of the Serie A season, Lamptey becomes a free agent immediately.
While the move allows Fiorentina to clear its wage bill, Lamptey now faces the challenge of finding a new club while recovering his fitness.
The timing of the termination also makes his inclusion in the Ghana national team for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup highly improbable due to his prolonged lack of match activity.
