Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has brought Parliament’s First Meeting of the Second Session to an indefinite close, urging Members of Parliament to leave behind habits of absenteeism and tardiness during the Easter period.

He expressed concern over the recurring issue of lateness and poor attendance, calling on lawmakers to use the season as a moment of reflection and renewal in their commitment to national service.

Despite the concerns, Mr Bagbin praised MPs for their hard work, noting that their dedication continues to strengthen the country’s parliamentary democracy.

He also encouraged legislators to use the recess to engage their constituents, gather feedback, and better inform their contributions when the House resumes.

The session recorded the passage of several important bills, including the Legal Education Bill, as well as the approval of financial allocation formulas for 2026.

However, some proposed legislation, such as the Parliamentary Transition Bill, remains under consideration.

Mr Bagbin further commended the Clerk to Parliament, staff of the Parliamentary Service, and the media for their role in supporting the work of the House, stating that their efforts help make Parliament more accessible to the public.

Parliament had reconvened on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, to begin the First Meeting of the Second Session under the Fourth Republic.
