Ghana has placed its first-ever order for multi-mission Airbus helicopters, marking a significant boost to the country’s air capability and emergency response infrastructure.

According to a press release issued by Airbus on January 15, 2026, the Ministry of Defence has awarded Airbus Helicopters a contract for four helicopters made up of two H175Ms, one ACH175 and one ACH160.

The H175M helicopters will be deployed as multi-mission aircraft, supporting transport operations, search and rescue missions, emergency medical services and disaster relief efforts.

The ACH175 and ACH160 helicopters will be used primarily for transport duties.

Reacting to the development, Head of Africa and the Middle East Region for Airbus Helicopters, Arnaud Montalvo, said the order signals the return of Airbus Helicopters to Ghana, with a strong emphasis on customer support and long-term partnership.

He noted that Airbus is particularly pleased with Ghana’s decision to operate the H175M, describing it as a versatile aircraft that enhances the country’s defence and security missions.

Mr. Montalvo added that the deal also reinforces Ghana’s position as a leading customer in West Africa for Airbus’ premium corporate helicopters, the ACH160 and ACH175.

The H175, which entered service in 2014, belongs to the super-medium class of helicopters.

It is known for combining long-range capability and high payload with smooth flight performance.

These features make it suitable for a wide range of onshore and offshore missions, including disaster relief, search and rescue, public service operations, military missions, crew transport, as well as private and business aviation.

Meanwhile, the ACH160 is the latest addition to the Airbus Corporate Helicopters (ACH) family and is regarded as the world’s most technologically advanced helicopter.

It features 68 Airbus-patented technologies and offers about 20 percent more cabin volume per passenger compared to previous-generation medium helicopters.

It also has 35 percent larger windows than competitors, giving it the brightest cabin in its class.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Ghana’s operational readiness across security, humanitarian and transport roles, while deepening cooperation between Ghana and Airbus Helicopters.
